Forgery Charges in New York City

Forgery charges range from forgery in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor, to forgery in the first degree which is a class C felony. 

If found in possession of items that have been forged, you could be charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument or criminal possession of forgery devices. 

Forgery in the Third Degree

Forgery in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor. Punishable by up to a year in prison and up to $1,000 in fines.

Forgery in the Second Degree 170.10

Forgery in the Second Degree is a class D felony. Punishable by up to 7 years in prison and up to $5,000 or double the amount of the defendant’s gain from the commission of the forgery. 

Forgery in the First Degree 170.15

Forgery in the third degree is a class C felony. Punishable by up to 15 years in prison and up to $5,000 or double the amount of the defendant’s gain from commission of the forgery.
